What should be put on this fancy face?
My problem is I can't decide which one I like the best, since I haven't been able to find one used on Facebook at a good enough discount (if you know of a used cob for sale please let me know). My policy is if it isn't at least 20% off retail, I would rather buy from the source rather than risk getting screwed. I had initially decided on the Elegance Revolution, but I was too slow on the Christmas sale and they are still out of stock of the combination I want (black cob). I emailed PS of Sweden and they said it is discontinued, but if I am patient there will be "a beautiful newcomer soon."
Elegance Revolution
Since then I regularly go to their site and drool. I can find pros and cons for nearly all the bridles. I want something with a removable flash, so that eliminated the jump off and high jump. I am curious to see what the blogger world thinks would look good on Stinker. Because I quite frankly have zero sense of style.
Flying Change Revolution
Flying Change Deluxe Revolution
Flat Out Revolution
Winning Round Revolution (Bling on noseband)
Top Notch Revolution
Olympic Revolution (Stitching on noseband)
All In Revolution (Extra wide noseband ~5cm)
Get Set Revolution (Crocoprint and buckles on both sides of noseband)
You may need to view the page in web form in order to see the poll. I couldn't figure out how to fix that one (I am seriously on the struggle bus with this poll).
I would stay away from anything patent just because it's hard to keep looking nice. And the Flat Out is their lowest end leather, which I don't like very much... too utilitarian. I also don't like white padding or clinchers or the rolled browband, so I'll throw those out. I loooove the Get Set, but more as a jumper bridle with the fancy stitched nose plate. The style that I've seen work best on a wide variety of faces is the Flying Change. I've loved it on just about every horse I've seen it on, including my own, so I'm gonna say that one.
ReplyDeleteI was worried that it might overwhelm his face. But I do like the way it looks on Henry...
DeleteA girl at my barn just ordered one... and we both agreed that the leather quality wasn't anything special and the reins are way too thin to be comfortable. She also got screwed over by shipping- she paid like $25 to get it here and then the company mislabeled the bridle so customs flagged it and UPS charged her an additional $16 (PSoS is not responsible for any additional costs at customs...) Also be aware that not all of them are legal to use in competition.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't like how they look and they're way too expensive, esp considering they're not all legal to use in public. I'd never order one after the debacle my friend had happen, at the end of which she's selling it because it doesn't fit her horse properly.
Boo. That sucks :(
DeleteI love how thin the reins are. Very easy to close my fingers around, and they have a great feel. I hate thick reins, so that seems to be personal preference. As for duty fees - not at all unusual for purchases from Europe. I've ordered a ton of stuff from there and end up paying duty fees about half the time. Luckily it's pretty cheap, as you stated.
DeleteI do think they're expensive (they've gone up quite a bit since I purchased mine) but they are good bridles. Mine oldest one is a year and half old, I used it on a daily basis and for shows, and it's holding up really well. I get compliments on it all the time.
I think that they do enough overseas shipping that they should be able to label their product properly for customs, and charge appropriately. I've ordered stuff overseas and never gotten stuck with paying an additional fee.
DeleteThe reins are definitely personal preference. I don't like super thick reins either- the awful thick rubber ones that came on my Micklem make me crazy (and I never used them). These ones were more like my half inch curb reins from my double bridle, but without the thickening rubber backing. I like thin reins for the curb, but not that thin for a main rein.
The leather isn't terrible, it's perfectly fine and attractive, but I guess for spending almost $300 on the whole shebang, I expected a lot more.
Love the thinness. But they do have a Pick N Mix option where you can opt for a thicker rein if you wanted.
DeleteTo me $300 is a mid-range bridle, and I've been super happy with mine. I love the design (which is partly what you're paying for, keep in mind) and it's held up well, so no complaints from me. That said, not everyone can love everything. ;)
I love my Flying Change. I was also worried about it being overwhelming but it's just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat is good to hear. Thanks.
DeleteI voted :) I like the flying change!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I appreciate all input because I suck at decision making :)
DeleteI have the Olympic revolution and love it! I got it as my jumping bridle and it has been great. However I also wanted the Elegance Revolution for my dressage bridle so I voted to wait :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also a big fan of their reins especially the rubber ones. They are so flexible and the right amount of grippiness. Everyone has personal preferences for their reins but if you don't like bulky reins and enjoy something the is super flexible get the reins too! And as far as the leather quality goes I like it a lot. I really feel like it easily compares with other $300 bridles. I use my Olympic Rev every day it and it basically looks like it did the day I got it. AND the leather seems to be treated with something that prevents it from molding. My tack room is basically 4 walls and a roof so tack molds very easily and quickly (like in a matter of days during the summer) and so far my PS bridle hasn't molded at all! Fingers crossed it stays this way this summer too :)
I saw the Olympic and went "Yes!" Then I saw the stitching and thought boo... I am quite curious about the new one since I know it's coming now.
DeleteI voted for croco leather because it is so fabulous and I really want it. I've been very happy with my PS bridles and the level of service I received. I mean, yeah, shipping is $25, but the bridle literally gets to my house FROM SWEDEN in two days flat. Can't be beat.
ReplyDeleteI'm also completely in love with noseband clichers right now, BUT it is called out in USDF rules at not legal. CYA if you're considering showing in dressage. No metal ornaments of any kind of the noseband. :-(
I kind of thought that, but I hadn't got around to reading the rules. Thanks :)
Deleteoooh i like the flying change too (or the deluxe!!). somehow i think Stinker would look SUPER sharp in a big fat nose band :D
ReplyDeleteHe will look super sharp no matter what in my mind. He is lucky I love that face so much. ;)
DeleteI voted for the olympic one because I thought it looked a little more delicate for his pretty face. If I could customize though I wouldn't have the fancy stitching and would have some bling on the browband.
ReplyDeleteI do like the look of that one. So many decisions to make!
