Truck and Trailer Set Up

Since I have been hauling out for lessons, I thought it would be fun to talk about how things are set up.  The truck and trailer are very utilitarian, but the truck is a hauling beast.  The trailer is almost 20 years and is a pretty standard steel stock trailer.  It has definitely seen better days, but it works and Stinker loads so I am happy with it.

Trusty Rusty at the lesson

Because it is a stock trailer and the truck is a flat bed, I am very limited on where to store my stuff.  Sure I could put it in the nose of the trailer, but that is inconvenient to access, so I stick everything in my tack truck (hello Husky toolbox) and work out of that.  It works really great for me, but I am also a giantess so I don't have any problem reaching the bottom even when it is on the flatbed.

#judgingyou

I am loving having the truck and trailer (even if snooty DQs judge me for it).  Now I just need to get to where I can back it up in a straight line.  I can back it around corners and turn around in a tight space, but for the life of me I can't back it up in a straight line.  Luckily it will be awhile before I need that skill and I will keep practicing.

  1. Hey, if it works, it works! Doesn't have to be pretty, just functional and safe 😉 I feel your pain on the backing though lol.

I think this should be a blog hop!

  2. There are sooo many awesome trailer conversions on pinterest, I'm told there's a fb group also but I don't do fb. Your trailer allows for many customizing options, maybe down the road you could try a few and trusty rusty could be so much more! Ultimately as long as it's safe & pony is happy that's all that really matters though. Glad you have some dependable wheels!

    1. Yeah, I am not the pinterest trailer conversion type of girl. I would rather keep using the rusty stock trailer :)

  3. pretty sure backing up straight is like.... the most impossible thing in the world lol. also, showing up to fancy dressage barns in my 15yo truck and stock trailer gave me an odd sort of satisfaction when maybe ppl would give me the stink eye but then izzy would come out and be all petite and fancy amid their giant lumbering beasts. lol...

    1. We don't quite have the petite or fancy down, and your stock trailer looked fancy compared to this one. There is a reason there aren't close up pictures of it.

  4. Do people really judge you for your truck and trailer? No f'ing way. I dreamed of having my own wheels for so long, I don't care what they look like, as long as they're safe and my horse will load. My set up is also very utilitarian.

    1. There was one girl that I said "hi" to and she looked me/Stinker/the trailer up and down and then kept walking. And proceeded to move her trailer away from me. I probably giggled way harder than I should have.

  5. I don't know if I'm a DQ but I am not judging you ;)

Backing up takes practice. I have found that the trick is make lots of tiny adjustments. And to have no one watching.

  6. A truck and trailer is a truck and trailer. As long as it's safe, dependable, and gets you where you want to be!

    1. Yep. Plus Stinker loads like a champ in this trailer and we had some issues with a couple of the smaller slant loads before.
